Electric Racing in F1

October 28, 2009

Do you have any opinions on the changing technology in motorsport? – F1 for example, the cars becoming hybrids, albeit in micro form.

Well, it was about time to get these technologies into motor racing. Petrol reserves are slowly getting depleted, we need new tech.

How do you think watching electric vehicles race would change your viewing experience on television or at the track?

Well, until the racing spirit will be there, it would not change my view.

Would experiencing electric cars on a racing circuit influence you to think about buying an electric car in the future?

If I see that they run great, why not buy an electric car? If it works on the track in a competitive environment, it means that it’s a viable thing to consider.

Do you have any positive or negative thoughts about electricity as the ‘fuel’ for motorsport vehicles that hasn’t been mentioned in the above questions?

Well… no negative thoughts, that’s for sure. We’d always like to see new tech being delivered to the masses. If it’s available and feasible, why not use it? And theoretically would be much more cleaner – depending on where the electricity is coming from.

F1 should be a technology leader, with all the restrictions in development maybe green tech is the only way it can be above the pack.

How do you think watching electric vehicles race would change your viewing experience on television or at the track?

If the racing is as good and the cars are fast and as good then no…..but i don’t want to watch electric golf carts race if you get my drift.

Would experiencing electric cars on a racing circuit influence you to think about buying an electric car in the future?

It would increase awareness and showcase the possibilities, so yes the impact must be positive.

As long as electrical storage is so limited as to be impractical I cant get excited about it or hopeful about it (except for low range city cars).
